Chapter 25 Didn't you want to learn how to use a knife?
After returning to the door, before even closing it properly, he blurted out, "You're sick."
Zhen Tianzun, who was sitting there looking at the data panel, glanced at her upon hearing this.
"You went out today, who did you yell at first when you came back?"
He pulled the door behind him and walked in a few steps, the irritation on his face from "I just ran into a lunatic" still lingering.
"That dark-colored phone in the background," she said bluntly, "blocked my way, forcibly connected to my private channel, and started questioning me right away."
Zhen Tianzun glanced at her, his expression showing no obvious change.
"Sound waves?"
"So you knew he would do this?" Vector's lips twitched. "Does your arena have some kind of systemic aversion to 'normal communication'?"
Zhen Tianzun gave a very light snort.
"What did he say?"
Yin Vector walked over, tossed herself into a chair, casually opened her terminal, and roughly repeated those few sentences. When she got to the phrase "not an ordinary peripheral relationship," she couldn't help but frown again.
"That sounds like someone is really sick," she concluded.
Zhen Tianzun didn't respond to that sentence, but when he heard the following sentence, "Do you know the reason for Zhen Tianzun's recent schedule changes?", his gaze paused slightly.
The vector didn't miss this detail and immediately looked up at him.
"So," she drawled, "why exactly did your schedule change recently?"
Zhen Tianzun leaned there, his tone still indifferent.
"What, he asked you, so you came back to ask him for him?"
"I'm just brushing up on my common sense," Vector replied quickly, "so I won't be stuck in the hallway like a questionnaire by someone with a disease mechanism next time."
There was a two-second silence in the living room.
Zhen Tianzun then put the terminal aside and spoke in a flat tone.
"It's nothing, we just staggered the evening sessions a bit."
The vector stared at him.
Why?
Zhen Tianzun glanced at her.
"Didn't you want to learn how to use a knife?"
The vector was stunned for a moment.
She truly hadn't expected that Zhen Tianzun would actually include this matter in the list himself.
"...You're so kind?" she blurted out instinctively, her optical glasses flashing. "You actually made time for me?"
Zhen Tianzun glanced at her, even showing some disdain for her own exclamation.
"What kind of reaction is that?"
"It's a normal reaction," the vector said matter-of-factly. "I thought you'd at least ignore me for a few more days."
She paused, barely able to contain her joy, and her speech quickened.
"Isn't that great? You should have said so earlier, so I could have been happy sooner."
Zhen Tianzun scoffed: "If I told you, would you still be able to concentrate on listening to anything else today?"
After thinking about it, the vector figured the answer to the question was probably no.
But of course she wouldn't admit it.
"Then next time you can at least give me a heads-up." She crossed her arms, her tone even a little self-righteous, "At least let me know what kind of beating I'm going to get."
"It's not too late to know now," Zhen Tianzun said calmly. "Anyway, you can't escape."
After he finished speaking, he stood up, tossed the data panel aside, and gestured for her to follow: "Let's go."
As Yin Vector kept up, he felt a light, bubbly joy at finally being able to learn how to use a knife, and he even walked a little faster than usual into the training area.
Zhen Tianzun stopped and turned to look at her: "Put the knife out first."
The vector was activated as instructed, activating the structure of her left forearm. With a very soft sliding sound, the slender energy blade extended outward along her forearm once more, its cold blue light gradually brightening until it finally hung down beside her.
She glanced down at it and still thought it was a bit too cool.
Zhen Tianzun didn't give her time to continue admiring herself. He glanced at her current posture and his first words brought her back to the reality of training.
"First, get rid of that 'knife-wielding' mindset in you."
The vector looked up: "What?"
"This isn't an external weapon," Zhen Tianzun said in a tone so indifferent it was almost detached from any emotion. "You just suddenly have a knife in your hand."
He raised his hand and pointed at the long blade extending from her left forearm.
"This is part of your forearm. If you keep using the old 'holding a tool' technique, you'll never get the hang of using this."
The vector remained silent for two seconds.
Then, very honestly, he said, "...but I just feel really strange right now."
Zhen Tianzun raised an eyebrow: "What's strange about it?"
"Suddenly, I wasn't holding a knife anymore." She looked down at her left forearm, which had completely turned into a blade. "My arm suddenly grew into a knife."
Zhen Tianzun looked at her and gave a soft snort: "Nonsense, this time you finally got it right."
When the vector lifted the long blade of the left forearm back up, there was a very specific and hard-to-ignore awkwardness.
She has a foundation in this area. Rhythm, distance, and center of gravity are not absent from her mind. She learned fencing in her human days and knows how her body should follow the blade forward, how she should stop her steps, and where her eyes should look first.
But ultimately, they were holding tools in their hands.
Unlike now, where my left forearm has been turned into a knife.
What's more troublesome is that she's more used to using her right hand.
The blade that has actually grown out is on the left side.
That sense of dislocation was so obvious that she could feel something was off.
She instinctively assumed the most basic stance, and as soon as she stood firm, Zhen Tianzun spoke.
"The center of gravity is off."
The vector motion paused.
Zhen Tianzun stood opposite him with his arms crossed, speaking calmly.
"You're standing too firmly on your right, but your left shoulder is dodging. You're not preparing to draw your knife, you're preparing to sever ties with your forearm."
The vector was so moved by what he said that the corner of his mouth twitched.
...That's really awful, but it's spot on.
She could only click her tongue softly and retract her stance a little.
"My right hand is better," she finally explained. "I'm not used to this sudden change."
Zhen Tianzun glanced at her and replied quickly, "Whether it goes smoothly or not is your business."
He raised his hand and pointed at the slender, gleaming blade on her left forearm.
"Since the knife is on the left, practice on the left side until you're comfortable with it."
The vector was silenced for half a second by this sentence.
Then, without making any more excuses, he resumed his pose.
This time, she tucked her left shoulder in and twisted her waistline back a little, trying not to treat the knife as "something extra in her hand," but to truly consider it as part of her forearm and center of gravity.
The awkwardness is still there, but it's better than before.
Zhen Tianzun looked at her, but didn't say "not bad," instead saying calmly, "Again."
Without uttering a sound, Yin Vector raised the knife once more.
