Chapter 57 Where to Stay
Chapter 57 Where to Stay
She picked up a skewer of lamb, rolled it in chili powder twice, and shoved it directly into Su Yu's hand. Then she took a skewer for herself, took a big bite, her cheeks bulging out, without the slightest hint of modesty.
"Tell me quickly, what's the deal with your 'Left Ear' and that tomb raiding movie you mentioned?"
Li Yitong looked at Su Yu with anticipation.
While eating his skewers, Su Yu recounted everything that had happened recently.
From meeting Yang Mi in Hengdian to becoming close friends with Alec Su and Ma Sichun on the set of "The Left Ear"
Then Wang Changtian flew over to finalize the contract, Su Youpeng and Zheng Baorui competed for scheduling, and in the end he ended up having to fly between Xiamen and the capital. He explained everything in detail, like he was reporting to his mother.
Li Yitong listened with great interest, occasionally interjecting with a comment.
"Yang Mi? You mean Yang Mi? Are you close to her? Isn't she dating Liu Kaiwei?"
"Su Youpeng? The Fifth Prince! Isn't he an actor and singer? Is he reliable as a director?"
"Chen Duling is the campus belle of Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics? I think I saw her photos on Weibo. She does look quite innocent, but aren't campus belle actresses easily criticized as just pretty faces?"
"Three million?? Su Yu, you're worth three million now?? How much did you get paid a day as an extra before? Two hundred? Three hundred?"
Su Yu was overwhelmed by her barrage of questions and had no choice but to answer them one by one.
After she finally finished asking her questions, she put down the empty skewer in her hand, picked up the beer bottle, bit open the cap with her teeth, and poured a large glass for Su Yu.
"OK."
Li Yitong picked up her cup and generously held it out to Su Yu.
"Congratulations! My Su Yu has finally made it through!"
"Cheers!"
The cups clinked together, making a crisp sound.
Both of them tilted their heads back and took a big gulp of the cold beer, which slid down their throats, feeling both cool and refreshing.
"I don't need to worry about that anymore. Let's talk about you," Su Yu put down his cup. "I haven't heard you complain yet."
Li Yitong picked up a piece of smashed cucumber with her chopsticks, put it in her mouth, and chewed it:
"Let me tell you, Su Yu, I've really had enough. Every day I teach those kids to stretch their legs, bend over backwards, and do somersaults. The kids cry and the parents make a fuss. I even have to touch up their makeup during breaks."
Last month, a parent complained about me, saying I was too harsh, and posted a bad review on Dianping (a Chinese review platform). My boss almost docked my pay.
"Too fierce? Aren't you the best at soothing kids?"
"What am I supposed to do? That kid was being lazy and not practicing. When she was stretching her legs, she screamed like a pig being slaughtered. I just told her that if she kept crying, she should go outside to cry. Her mother complained about me the next day."
Li Yitong rolled her eyes and took another big gulp of wine. "I'm so angry. If this doesn't work, I'll just quit in a few months."
"You said you wanted to quit the time before last."
"This time it's for real!"
"You said the same thing the time before last."
"Su Yu!"
Li Yitong stuck her little foot out and kicked him under the table, "Can't you even shut up while eating!"
It was completely dark when the two of them came out of the barbecue stall.
Li Yitong drank six bottles of beer, her cheeks were flushed, but she still walked steadily. She had been hanging out with Su Yu all along, and her alcohol tolerance was among the best of the girls.
Su Yu drank nine bottles, and apart from a little redness in the corners of his eyes, he looked perfectly fine.
Patting her non-existent beer belly, Li Yitong pointed to a karaoke bar across the street. The neon sign shone with a tacky yet welcoming light in the night. "It's only a little past nine. There's nothing to do when I get back."
"Let's go sing karaoke with my sister!"
"Alright, I'll risk my life to accompany you."
"Hey, hey, hey, what's with that expression?! I've improved lately, okay? Come on, come on!"
The mini-bag was so small that it could only fit a two-seater sofa and a small coffee table. The TV screen on the wall was lit up, and the blue karaoke interface gave the whole room a dim glow.
Li Yitong plopped down on the sofa, picked up the karaoke machine, and started frantically selecting songs, as if she were starving.
As soon as Su Yu sat down, the intro to the first song began.
"Little Apple".
Recently, this song has been playing on every square dance speaker in every street and alley, and Su Yu has become somewhat numb to it from being brainwashed.
Li Yitong handed him another microphone, stood up, cleared her throat, and sang with all her might towards the MV screen.
"I planted a seed!! And it finally bore fruit!!"
There was no skill involved, just pure emotion.
If you can't reach the high frequencies, just use a louder volume to force it; if you can't reach the low frequencies, just muddle through them.
But she sang with great enthusiasm, her body twisting and turning to the rhythm, her hands waving back and forth like a Sichuanese playing the accordion, her ponytail swinging like an excited golden retriever.
When the chorus came on, Li Yitong suddenly turned around and looked at Su Yu, shaking her head.
Su Yu, who was leaning back on the sofa, couldn't help but laugh when he saw her like this. He picked up the microphone and shouted along with her.
"You are my little apple!! I can never love you enough!!"
The two of them sang and danced in that cramped little private room.
After singing "Little Apple," she wasn't satisfied and switched to "The Ordinary Road."
This time she didn't dance. She stood quietly in front of the sofa, holding the microphone in both hands, and actually sang Pu Shu's song quite well.
"I have crossed mountains and seas, and I have walked through crowds of people."
Su Yu didn't sing along, but quietly leaned back on the sofa, watching Li Yitong's back.
The light from the screen flickered and shone on her, casting her slender figure as a small silhouette.
She had thin shoulders and a slender waist; she was all alone, working hard in the capital all her life…
Seeing her like this, Su Yu felt heartbroken.
But when she sang this song, her back was ramrod straight, like a Valkyrie who refused to surrender.
As the song ended, Li Yitong turned around and raised an eyebrow at him triumphantly: "How was it? Did you improve?"
"You've improved." Su Yu smiled sincerely.
"Then I'll sing one more song!" She turned around and went to press the karaoke button again.
It was almost midnight when I left the karaoke bar.
There were far fewer people on the streets, with only one or two taxis occasionally driving by on the empty road.
The streetlights cast long shadows of the two of them. Li Yitong, as if finally remembering something, suddenly asked, "By the way, where are you staying tonight?"
Su Yu turned his head to look at her, his tone matter-of-fact:
"Of course I'll stay at your place! You wouldn't stop me from staying, would you?"
Li Yitong readily agreed:
"Hmph, how could that be! We're already here, where else would you stay if not here? If I don't take care of you, who will!"
