Chapter 1106 - 1102: Unwilling to See Irene Morton in Trouble
The medical staff hurried upstairs with the medical kit, and Sophie Smith stood rigidly to the side, watching the doctor work busily to save a life. She turned away, unable to bear the scene any longer, and large tears kept falling.Asher Land stood beside her, pulling her into his embrace.
"It will be okay." He held her tightly, trying to comfort, but he didn’t even notice that his own voice was trembling.
"Mr. Land, Miss Smith," the doctor approached, "I’m sorry, but please step outside for now. Rest assured, we will do everything we can to save Miss Morton."
"Let’s go outside. We shouldn’t be here getting in the doctor’s way." Asher said softly in her ear. He nodded to the doctor and then led Sophie out of the room.
A few maids gathered outside the door, but when Asher glanced at them, they all stepped back.
Sophie pushed Asher away, her body weakly leaning against the cold wall, slowly sliding down.
"How did things turn out like this, how could they..." she murmured to herself, her face full of pain.
"It’s not your fault." Asher was just about to reach out to pull her up from the floor when she pushed him away.
"It’s my fault." She looked up at him with pleading eyes, "Do you know? In the room, she confessed to me, she said sorry, she said she knew she was wrong, but I didn’t say to her face that I forgave her, so she attempted suicide because of it. If I had said I forgave her then, she wouldn’t have..."
"Sophie!" Asher shouted at her, pulling her up from the ground forcefully, "Don’t talk like that."
He didn’t want to see her blame herself, didn’t want to see her feeling guilty.
Sophie was clearly startled by Asher’s outburst, she looked at him innocently for a long time and eventually said nothing.
They stood silently outside the hospital room, waiting. Though unsettled and anxious inside, neither of them showed it.
After about two hours, the door finally opened.
They both quickly walked up to the doctor.
"How is it?" Asher asked, worried.
"Mr. Land, Miss Smith, rest assured, the bleeding has stopped. Luckily, it was discovered in time, avoiding a tragedy."
Upon hearing this, Sophie’s expression relaxed a bit, thankful that everything was okay.
The room still carried the faint scent of blood mixed with the sharp odor of medicine. Although Sophie furrowed her brow slightly, she still insisted on walking to Irene Morton’s bedside.
The person on the bed remained in a deep coma, like a fragile porcelain doll that could no longer withstand any turmoil or harm.
Sophie truly felt as if she was in a dream. In the past few years by Asher’s side, so much had happened in her life—separation, death, the impermanence of things...
She was absolutely unwilling to see anything happen to Irene, despite all the wrongs she had done to her.
Once, they shared a time of peaceful coexistence, laughter, and joy, didn’t they?
Her eyes gradually grew moist as memories surged in her heart, both good and bad, pressing in her mind.
"Alright, Irene will be okay, don’t worry." Asher came over, placing his large hand on her shoulder, "I’ll stay with Irene here, you can go out and take a rest."
Seeing that Sophie’s emotions weren’t too stable, Asher wanted to send her out of the room. He feared nothing more than seeing her tears.
