Chapter 1108: Rejected Matchmaking Candidate
Chapter 1108: Rejected Matchmaking Candidate
Halfway through dinner, the doorbell rang again.Stella Charlie looked up at the dark night outside the window, the rain pouring down more heavily.
She put down her chopsticks, got up to open the door, and saw on the screen by the door that it was Owen Orwell’s mother standing outside.
Stella Charlie hesitated for two seconds, then reached out and opened the door: "Auntie, what brings you here so late?"
Mrs. Owens smiled, "I wanted to have a chat with you. Am I disturbing you?"
Stella Charlie replied politely, "Not at all, come in and have a seat. It’s raining heavily."
Mrs. Owens sat down, still smiling warmly. She looked amiable, but Stella Charlie knew it was just a facade.
"I’m really sorry about today."
Stella Charlie poured Mrs. Owens a cup of water: "I should be the one apologizing for causing your family not to have a proper meal."
"I can tell you’re a sensible girl, and Owen truly likes you. He’s been talking to me about you all afternoon."
Stella Charlie just smiled.
"I am quite satisfied with you too, but your past is tethered with Owen’s cousin, which might make things awkward if you get married. Owen’s business relies on his cousin much, and strained relations wouldn’t be good for anyone."
Stella Charlie: "I understand."
"I know you’re considerate and will find a better match in the future. Owen would be missing out if he can’t marry you."
Mrs. Owens gave Stella Charlie enough face, and Stella knew how to gracefully step down: "What do you need me to do, Auntie?"
"Owen is quite devoted to you, and even if we tell him ten times, it doesn’t work as well as you telling him once. So I hope you can talk to him in person, make him give up, so neither of you is delayed."
"Okay, I will explain it to him clearly."
Mrs. Owens nodded in satisfaction, having said what she needed, and after exchanging a few pleasantries, she got up to leave.
After Mrs. Owens left, Stella Charlie took out her phone, carefully sending a message to Owen Orwell: [Owen, after much thought, I feel we aren’t quite suitable for each other. Let’s just be friends.]
Owen responded immediately: [Is it because of my cousin? You really don’t have to worry, I’ve already discussed it with my family, and my parents agree to our relationship.]
Stella Charlie: [No, it’s just that I don’t see you as my ideal type.]
Such rejection might be hurtful, but only harsh words could swiftly cut through the entanglement.
She knew about Owen Orwell’s family background; he wouldn’t have trouble finding a good marriage match, and lingering would do no one any favors.
Owen: [Let’s talk in person. I’ll come over now.]
Stella Charlie: [No need. I’ve considered this carefully before reaching out to you. I hope you respect my decision.]
Owen: [Can’t we try again?]
Stella Charlie: [I don’t think that’s necessary. Thank you for being with me during this time. I wish you happiness.]
Owen: [Can we still stay in touch?]
Stella Charlie: [Of course, we’re still friends.]
She knew clearly that this was just a polite remark.
After all, she and Owen had no overlap in life or work, and soon, they’d just be "unsuccessful blind date matches" residing in each other’s friend lists, with no further contact.
After putting down her phone, Stella Charlie inexplicably let out a sigh of relief.
She didn’t even know why she felt relieved. Before Vincent Warner appeared, she had seriously considered marrying Owen Orwell.
Perhaps she was thankful that this awkward situation wasn’t discovered after marrying Owen, which would have made things much harder to resolve.
